Freshman Oilers defeated Loyola Freshman Cubs 1-0 on Saturday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Easton Shortle induced a groundout from Clougherty to finish off the game.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Oilers pitchers struck out nine, while Farrar sat down five.
Grady Ream got the win for Oilers and went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out two and walking one. Shortle threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Steel Kurtz started the game for Oilers. Kurtz went four innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out six
Dane Cunningham and Jason Dunham each managed one hit to lead Oilers. Oilers was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
