Dane Cunningham collected three hits in three at bats, as Oilers defeated Gahr Gladiators 12-0 on Friday. Cunningham doubled in the second inning, doubled in the first inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
Oilers jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Owen Bone singled, scoring two runs, and Mason Tapia laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run.
Oilers added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Brayden Wood singled, and Cunningham doubled, each scoring one run.
Oilers scored five runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. An error scored one run, Tommy August drew a walk, scoring one run, Cunningham drew a walk, scoring one run, and Bone singled, scoring two runs.
Bone earned the win for Oilers. They allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking none. Jorge Valdez took the loss for Gahr Junior Varsity Gladiators. They went two and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (five earned) on nine hits, striking out three and walking two. Nathan Sammartano and Jared Marchbank each came on in relief for Oilers and shutdown Gahr Junior Varsity Gladiators.
Oilers amassed 12 hits in the game. Bone drove the middle of the lineup, leading Oilers with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Gavin Pluma collected two hits for Oilers in two at bats.
