Junior Varsity Oilers were victorious against Cypress baseball 6-3 on Tuesday at Huntington Beach High School.
A home run to left field by Dane Cunningham put Oilers on the board in the bottom of the first.
Owen Bone earned the win for Oilers. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Anderson took the loss for Cypress baseball. The starting pitcher went four innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits, striking out one and walking two. Steel Kurtz, Ashton Arroyo, and Jared Marchbank each came on in relief for Oilers and shutdown Cypress J baseball.
DJ Matejka seized on their opportunities, leading Oilers with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Matejka, Leo Aguilar, Sol Moriyama, Tommy August, Bone, and Cunningham each collected one hit for Oilers.
Trenton Ramirez stole two bases. Oilers ran wild on the base paths, amassing six stolen bases for the game.
Oilers turned two double plays in the game. Oilers were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Matejka made the most plays with eight.
