Freshman Oilers defeated Los Alamitos Freshman Griffins 3-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Jason Dunham induced a fly out from Adams to finish off the game.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Oilers pitchers struck out nine, while Los Alamitos Freshman Griffins pitchers sat down four.
Oilers fired up the offense in the second inning, when Sol Moriyama singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
A single by D’Erico in the third inning was a positive for Los Alamitos Freshman Griffins.
Owen Bone took the win for Oilers and went five innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out eight and walking one. Dunham threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Oilers collected 11 hits on the day. Nathan Sammartano, Easton Shortle, Mason Tapia, and Dane Cunningham all managed multiple hits for Oilers. Cunningham, Tapia, Shortle, and Sammartano each collected two hits to lead Oilers.
