How Sweep It Is; Oilers Cap Off Winning Week With Sweep of Vikings
Jake Frohn’s first start of the season is a success with six strikeouts, while CJ Weinstein provides extra insurance to lock down fourth win of the week
The Huntington Beach Oilers (6-0) complete the three-game sweep of the Marina Vikings (7-5) Friday afternoon from Marina High School. Courtesy of today's win, the Oilers stay undefeated to begin the 2025 season and are only three wins away from matching their best start back in 2017 (9-0). Jake Frohn kept the Vikings' bats quiet through four innings with a pair of strikeouts in the second, third and fourth inning respectfully. With just a one run lead late in the contest, utility arm Ethan Porter wiggled out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam and eventually closed the game out in the seventh to secure his second save of the year.
The bats of Huntington Beach came alive in short spurts, with their first hit in the game finally coming in the fourth inning as Jayton Greer connected on his second home run this week. CJ Weinstein would provide just the right amount of insurance in the seventh as he capitalized on a two-out, two RBI single to right field, scoring Dane Cunningham and Ethan Porter. This snapped a 0-for-6 streak and helped collect his first runs batted in since Wednesday.
By securing the series sweep, the Oilers have begun Sunset League play with a 5-0 record and now turn their attention to the Boras Baseball Classic that begins on Tuesday, March 25. Day one of tournament play will feature Huntington Beach in the 9 AM slot versus Aquinas at Mater Dei High School.
