An Offensive Outburst Thrusts Oilers Back To Their Winning Ways
Matt Haidl secures his first three-hit game of the season en route to an Oilers season high in runs scored (12) and hits (15) vs. Carlsbad
The Huntington Beach Oilers (8-1) get back in the win column against the Carlsbad Lancers (7-4) in the third round of the 2025 Boras Baseball Classic, Thursday afternoon from JSerra High School. Offense was the name of the game as the Oilers struck for runs in six of seven innings, while piecing together season best totals in runs and hits. 10 different players recorded at least one hit, with four (Jayton Greer, Jason Dunham, Matt Haidl and Owen Bone) collecting multi-hit games. Even players off the bench like Trenton Ramirez and Otto Espinoza contributed to the high offensive attack by chipping in two RBI each.
On the mound, starter Tyler Bellerose shined going five innings while yielding just one earned-run and striking out five. Following a first inning run, the senior right-hander blanked the Lancers the rest of the way, allowing just one baserunner via the walk. Out of the bullpen, Freddie Angiuli made his season debut, providing one clean inning of work and closing out a dynamic victory following a tough loss in the second round the afternoon prior.
With today's third round win, the Oilers will move into the fifth place matchup of the Boras Baseball Classic bracket and face the Vista Murrieta Broncos, following their 8-1 loss to Santa Margarita Eagles. The Oilers have played the Broncos on three different occasions (dating back to 2016-2018), winning all three matchups. Tournament play will begin at 12 PM from Mater Dei High School with the pregame show beginning at 11:45 AM on hbhsathletics.mixlr.com.
