Another Offensive Onslaught Leads Oilers To Boras Classic Finale Victory Against Vista Murrieta
Jayton Greer crushes a first inning grand slam, setting the tone to the second-highest scoring output of the season
The Huntington Beach Oilers (9-1) finish the Boras Baseball Classic on a high note against the Vista Murrieta Broncos (8-4-1) with a 9-1 win Friday afternoon from Mater Dei High School. The Oilers offense cut right to the chase with a five run first inning as the top five batters in the order all scored courtesy of an Ethan Porter Single and Jayton Greer Grand Slam. This became the highest scoring first inning for Huntington Beach this season, plus eight of nine starters reached base at least once. The offense continued to hit all the right notes in the second inning as Greer slashed a two-run single up the middle to drive in CJ Weinstein and Porter, capping the two-out rally.
Starting pitcher Jake Frohn cruised through four innings on the bump, dominating the Broncos lineup, yielding just one run (unearned) on three hits and two strikeouts. The senior right-hander secured his second win of the year, while lowering his ERA to 0.77. Out of the bullpen, the combination of Steel Kurtz, Jared Marchbank and Dane Cunningham combined to go three shutout frames with five strikeouts. Marchbank wiggled out of a precarious jam in the sixth inning, striking out the side after loading the bases with no outs.
With today's win, the Oilers finish the 2025 Boras Baseball Classic taking three of four games and now retain a two-game winning streak. This 9-1 start to the season matches the 10-game start of the 2017 season, where the Oilers that year finished 29-5.
