John Petrie drove in four runs on one hit to lead Oilers past Chargers 16-3 on Friday. In the second inning, Petrie hit a grand slam to left field.
Oilers won thanks in part to 13 runs in the second inning. Travis Curry singled, scoring one run, Ethan Porter singled, scoring one run, Trevor Goldennetz doubled, scoring two runs, Trent Grindlinger doubled, scoring three runs, Jayton Greer singled, scoring one run, Curry singled, scoring one run, and Petrie hit a grand slam to left field.
A ground out by Jett Burden extended the Oilers lead to 14-0 in the top of the third
Oilers scored one run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to right field by Phillip Kang.
Tyler Bellerose started on the bump for Oilers. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking two. Caden Clem, Aaron Minnicucci, Colin McNiven, and Jared Grindlinger each came on in relief for Oilers and shutdown Chargers.
Oilers tallied 16 hits in the game. Curry and Goldennetz each collected three hits for Oilers. Matt Hansen collected two hits for Oilers in four at bats. CJ Weinstein paced Oilers with two walks.
Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Oilers turned one double play in the game.
